In a continuing commitment to Canadian repertoire, Aventa presented 25 Canadian works and 10 premieres over the current season. International highlights included premieres from Michael Finnissy and a week-residency with Sir Peter Maxwell Davies as the ensemble presented the world premiere of his 2011 work Stormwatch, Stormfall.  Our upcoming season features new works from Canadian composers James Rolfe and Christopher Butterfield, as well as the September premiere of Gavin Bryars’ opera Marilyn Forever.  Commissions in development in include new works UK’s Michael Finnissy and Canadian composers Allison Cameron and Gregory Lee Newsome.

Aventa – directed by Bill Linwood, has a knack for putting complementary compositions together. For those of us who think contrast is overrated, their programs are a treat.” – Globe and Mail
